Summary: Obi-Wan Kenobi has never known it, but he has always been the Force’s Champion, destined to suffer infinite sadness in defense of the Light. On his last turn on the wheel, responsibility for The Chosen One, the false child of prophecy, had been thrust upon him with no warning, and Darkness held the upper hand.

But this time, the Force has marshaled its power and will protect its Champion until the time is right, no matter how long Obi-Wan has to wait and how much he has to suffer.

Or,

Obi-Wan is reborn as a twelve-year old.

He wakes up on a slavers’ ship, with all of his prior life’s memories intact, and he’s bound for Tatooine with a Force-inhibitor collar around his neck, a bomb implanted in his spine, and no way of knowing what state of the Galaxy is in.

Just another day in the life of the Force’s Champion.

Chapter Summary: Yoda arrives at the Jinn-Kenobi apartment and he’s troubled by what he senses, that his great-grandpadawan has used his immortal midi-chlorians to save Qui-Gon’s life. Is this attachment or simply using the Force to heal another? And maybe this is not the time to ask that question. The murderous Traitor is in custody and needs to be interrogated, and Yoda, like everyone else, wants to know why Feemor wanted Qui-Gon dead.

Reccer's Notes: In this interesting short story, written for an outtake challenge but you don't need to read the other fic at all, Rodney, back in his university student days, develops a crush on his somewhat older math lecturer. It isn't requited, and although I tagged for "character development" I really meant "character study", as Rodney only moves from He's hot - maybe I like men?, to I might still like men but he was a waste of time - his IQ & math were sexy, though. The writing's extremely good - dryly humorous - and it's a great characterisation of Rodney. Good math-flavoured fun!

The year after Shane Hollander first wins them the cup, Ilya joins the Voyageurs' Strength & Conditioning team. In retrospect, he was pretty much doomed from the start.

Reccer's Notes: This is an author I love, and an interesting alternate-canon AU. Ilya's story is different - he starts off in hockey but is injured as a teen so unable to play professionally, and after his toxic relationship with Sasha implodes, Sveta gets them both to Canada. The story starts with Ilya having clawed his way into AHL coaching and now being employed as a strength and conditioning coach for the Voyageurs. We get his Russian backstory and the start of his relationship with Shane in flashbacks interspersed with present day, when he's been with the Voyageurs for two years. The story focuses on his deepening relationship with Shane and the issues of Ilya's underlying poor self-worth due to his past, his injury, his lower salary compared to Shane's star status. All that versus a coach being in a relationship with a star player, let alone a gay relationship, not to mention the BDSM aspect. At one point, Yuna accidentally catches them at Shane's place so that it's obvious they're together ("I’m not sure you’ve ever said no to a coach in your life"), and Shane has to talk her down. But she comes around, and Rose, Sveta, and even Hayden, support them. It's an excellent, nuanced portrayal of a complex relationship, and while this fic is complete, the good news is that a sequel is posting as a WIP.

He's a precocious genius (possibly an orphan or runaway) who works as a teenage prostitute to save up and escape the life. He propositions his coach, John, who pays him and goes on to try and "rescue" him (while still fucking him) and who falls in love with him - new for Rodney, who's very jaded about his marks. It explores both of their morally dodgy positions as Rodney grapples with having someone who actually cares for him, for the first time. Very hot, and a hopeful ending.

Reccer's Notes: In this interesting story, the trinityofone explores John Sheppard (a university English professor who stalled out as a novelist after one book) falling into a relationship with Rodney, his brilliant student who's very determined to seduce him. The fic explores John's repressed longing and his conflict about knowing that a relationship with Rodney is forbidden even while falling for him. It's open-ended, with neither a happy nor unhappy ending, but if Rodney were to continue in John's class there probably wouldn't be a good outcome. There's a nice depiction of John's academic friends, and overall it's bittersweet, and very well written.

And, as in many canon divergence fics, that changes everything.
There's a strong focus on the Jedi Master/Padawan relationship, including discussions of the meaning of "Master", especially as it relates to Anakin as a former slave.
"The Force" is tagged as a character and the relationships the characters have with it are important.
This story has a compelling emotional arc and a very satisfying dramatic showdown.

(There's also a hint of diplomatic marriage with an - in this story - side character, but other than the effects of said diplomatic marriage it's not important so I didn't tag it as a theme.)

Ilya Rozanov is the best damn rookie the NHL has ever seen. Shane Hollander, captain of the Metros and three-time Stanley Cup winner with over 700 career goals (not that Ilya is counting, thank you very much), just wants to help him celebrate.

Reccer's Notes: This is the first in a series of (currently) four fics about Mr. Hollander and puppy-Ilya. It's an AU 'verse where Shane is considerably older and a still-active and legendary NHL player, and Ilya's much younger and the rookie of the year. Ilya very much looks up to Shane, and the relationship that rapidly develops (with puppylike enthusiasm and full consent on Ilya's part) is a Dom/sub one. In a partial reversion of the usual HR dynamic, Ilya is a sub who tops and Shane is a dom who likes being fucked - but that's in later stories in the series. This is their first meeting, with the establishment of their veteran player/rookie and Dom/sub relationship. It's funny, well-written, and very hot. The podfic's also highly recommended.

Reccer's Notes: Well, well, well... this story actually utilizes the 19-year age gap in a way no one else has done (to my knowledge), because in this story Viggo is actually Orlando's teacher. Yes, you are reading correctly. This story deals with a student/teacher relationship. If this squicks you out, it's probably safer if you skip this. If you are game, you can look forward to a lot of "we really shouldn't"-arguments interspersed with hot sex scenes. Apart from the subject matter and the fact that Razzle is an amazing writer, this story is interesting insofar as Orlando has a very go-get-them attitude. He's the driving force behind much of the plot. Most of the time, he's written as the more passive in the relationship, so if you want character dynamics that are a little off the beaten path, this might be something for you.

Bread & Roses by rosalindscotch. Merlin fusion with the movie Pride (2014). I enjoyed this movie and found this to be a sweet adaptation of a film with a lot of heart.

Concession by obsession_inc. A great premise and wonderful execution. "An AU diverging from canon after the first movie: Christine Everhart investigates the disappearance of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts." A mystery whose solution gets revealed bit by bit and the end result is not pretty.

Sunrise in Exile by Ragdoll (Keshka). "Tony does the math and realizes their best chance to save the universe is by... not confronting Thanos on his own turf. So he steals a wizard and a spider and a space ship. And he runs." Late in the story there's a reference to their path through the universe as a futuristic Odyssey. There's something to that. Eventual Tony/Stephen, but it's not the main point of the story, and I love the way it's described in the last few chapters. An adventure worth taking.

grim from the reaping by bedlamsbard. An Avengers series that begins after Infinity War and supposes a different direction for the remaining Avengers. The main difference? It is Loki who survives rather than Thor. Told in two main parts, the first section is a separate adventure revolving around Steve, the hunt for the supersoldier serum, and the beginnings of New Asgard on Earth. The second part envisages a similar but different path through Endgame. Deeply plotted and told mostly from Natasha's POV, it pays some tribute to the fallout from the Snap as well as the way the survivors hang together.

The New Monuments Men by Sholio. White Collar AU where "Neal leads a gang of thieves who steal artifacts and return them to their rightful owners. FBI agent Peter Burke infiltrates their group to take them down. But the more Peter learns about their mission, the more doubts he has about his." Did a nice job of showing Peter slowly shifting away from his life and finding a role within Neal's group.

A Hucklerobby Coffee Shop AU, featuring our favorite Nebraskan boy as a Med School dropout and the grouchy Dr Robby that we all know and love.

Reccer's Notes:
I fell hard for The Pitt with all the trauma and angst that goes into the series itself, because while I've worked in hospitals most of my adult life (pharmacy technician and pharmacy informatics), I've never seen a television series that actually gets a lot of it right. That's the thing about The Pitt, it just grabs you and won't let you go.

This is a nice little story where Dennis was in college, gets cut off by his parents, and is still at PTMC, but as a barista in the employee cafeteria. Robby meets him and they instantly have a connection. And when Robby finds out that Dennis was in school to become a doctor, he takes him under his wing.

A lot of The Pitt fics for Robby/Dennis go down the DOM/sub route, but this one doesn't. There's really no power dynamics or anything (which isn't my cup of tea, but YMMV). It's just two lonely people meeting each other, finding they have something in common, and then becoming closer. It starts out as strangers, grows to mentor/protoge, and really goes from there.

You know - like real life. Just like The Pitt really simulates real life.

Anyway, this is a beautiful, somewhat angsty fic that I adore, so sharing here.

Reccer's Notes: This is set considerably before canon, with Rodney as a young (short-term) high school teacher and John his sixteen-year-old student. As is frequently the case in Stargate Atlantis fandom, they fall for each other, and at one point it seems as though Rodney's going to betray his position. A clever - and very hot - fic, if you don't mind the author skating close to statutory rape (but, I promise, not actually going there). In the end all's well, even if they are stuck in Pegasus with life-sucking aliens.
